The project initiation and planning (PIP)

The project initiation and planning (PIP) phase is a critical activity in the life of a project. It this at this point that projectsare accepted for development, rejected as infeasible, orredirected. Project initiation focuses on activities designed to assist in organizing a team in conducting project planning. This is depending on the size, scope and complexity of the project. The main output in the initiation process is project charter. For the planning, it is a second activity within the PIP and distinct from general information system planning where its focuses on assesing the information systems need of the entire organization. It involves of defining clear, discrete activities and the work needed to complete each activity within a single project. The objectives of project planning process is to develop a Baseline Project Plan (BPP) and Project Scope Statement (PSS)

This two processes are to transform a vague system request into a tangible system description clearly outlining the objectives, feasibility issues, benefits, costs, and time schedule for the projects. Project initiation includes forming the project initiation team, establishing customer relationship, developinga plan to get the project started, setting project management procedures, and creating an overall project management environment. A key activity in project planning is the assessment of numerous feasibility issues associated with the project. Feasibilities that should be examined include economic, technical, operational, schedule, legal and contractual, and political ones

Introduction of Project Identification

Project Identification is a collection, compilation and analysis of data to locate potential oppurtunities for starting business and development of such oppurtunities. The demand for new or replacement systems exceeds the ability and resources of most organizations to conduct systems development projects either by themselves or with consultants. The organizations must set priorities and a direction for systems development that will yield develoment projects with the greatest net benefits.

Potential project evaluated and selected using a broad range of criteria such as value chain analysis, alignment with business strategy, potential benefits, resources availability and requirements and risks. Corporate strtegic planning is using to identify the mission, objectives and strategies of the organization. Information System Plannig evaluates the current inventory of systems and desired future state of the organization and its system and determines which project are needed to tramsform systems to meet the future needed of the organization.

Improved project identification and selection is needed the cost of information systems is rising rapidly, system cannot handle applications that cross organizational boundaries, sysyem often do not address critical organizational objectives, data redundancy is often out of control and system maintenance costs continue rise up.

Information System Problem

Even with a very sophisticated network infrastructure of interbank network , it has its limitation and problem since network , hardware and infrastructure itself is created by humans and as we all know , us human have their imperfections. Impressive as it is to have connection between banks that enables different ATM stations of different banks can read and make transactions with cards from foreign banks and accounts , the functions are limited to only withdrawal and balance enquiry . Transaction slip printed after withdrawal transaction and balance enquiry does not state the account balance of that account if cards from other banks are used.
